Ladies Farewell Tonight - Oct 1st 7:00pm

The Ladies of Providence will be honoring, praying for, and saying farewell to the ladies of Resurrection tonight Thursday October 1st at 7pm in the Fellowship Hall at Providence. I hope you'll make every effort to be there, it should be a special evening.

Iron Barley

On Monday I had lunch with Garrett Craw, former Providence Intern and church planter in Southern California, at Iron Barley.



Iron Barley is run by chef Tom Coghill, an award winning chef at Iron Barley as well as at several other St. Louis restaurants over the years. Here's Tom:




What kind of food will you find at Iron Barley? Well here's their description from the website, "an eating and drinking establishment pairing traditional yet unusual American cuisine with the finest locally-handcrafted brews." It's unusually well crafted comfort food always with surprising (and delicious) combinations. Tom specializes in oak roasted meats and as you might have guessed from the name, much of the cooking is done with barley. Not only is the menu interesting and food delicious, but I've been waited on by probably five different waitresses during my visits there, and their wait staff gets high marks for knowledge of the menu, giving well-informed recommendations, and being friendly and engaging while delivering professional and high quality service - if you drop in, tip them well!

In August Iron Barley set a world record for making the longest BLT sandwich - 179 ft 2 in. It contained 500 lbs of bacon!!



Carondelet is lucky to have a restaurant like Iron Barley with a chef like Tom Coghill.

Baby Bean Storytime - Tues Sep 29 at 10am

The first installment of Baby Bean Storytime at Broadway Bean. They plan to do these every other Tuesday.

Pray for Tom

Remember to pray for Tom Hanley's meeting with the guy from the Chief Plan Examiner's office for the city of St. Louis Tuesday morning. Pray that the city would look favorably on the proposed plans, that would allow us to move forward with building wheelchair ramps for those in need, in the Carondelet area. Tom got the idea for the wheelchair ramp project from a friend of his who runs the Dallas Ramp Project.

Coffee on Broadway

One of the very first businesses that I walked into, when I started visiting businesses in Carondelet several months ago was the Broadway Bean Coffee Shop on South Broadway. I was having coffee with another PCA pastor and from the moment we walked in I could tell that this was a unique place. Broadway Bean was aromatic, looked inviting, had great music on, and most importantly I was warmly greeted and welcomed by Larry & Vesna, the husband and wife team who run the place.



Larry & Vesna have become friends. When I drop in at the Broadway Bean I can count on a wonderful atmosphere, good coffee, free WiFi and rich conversation. I encourage you to drop in and meet my friends Larry & Vesna, oh and you'll also enjoy a GREAT cup of coffee!

Free Movie in Carondelet Park - October 3rd

I'm going to begin posting events here that you can take advantage of in the Carondelet Park area, as I would like to encourage you to spend time there when you can. Eventually I'd like to get a calendar up on the web that will more comprehensively list events. This coming Saturday night the Holly Hills Improvement Association is sponsoring a showing of Ghostbusters in the park at 8pm. Details here.

Corinthian Baptist Church

One of the most rewarding things in acquainting myself with the Carondelet area has been introducing myself to local pastors. It has been a great opportunity to hear about their congregations, to talk about Resurrection, and to practice the unity of the church, which Jesus prays about in John 17.20-21:

20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

Yesterday I had coffee with Pastor Jim Smith from Corinthian Baptist Church. Pastor Smith's wife is a kindergarten teacher, I told him that now there's two of us ;-) Pastor Smith graduated from Moody Bible Institute and Dallas Theological Seminary. He welcomed me warmly to Carondelet and offered to help us in any way that we needed. Here's a shot of Corinthian Baptist which is just off the corner of Carondelet Park on Colorado Avenue. Pray for the flourishing of Corinthian Baptist.

Carondelet's 21st Century Plan

Saturday morning Steve & Rachel Nicoletti will be joining me in Carondelet at the Ivory Theatre at an event sponsored by the Landmarks Association of St. Louis. The event will feature a presentation of Carondelet's Strategic Plan for the 21st Century. Terry Harkness, the consultant who designed the plan, will be featured along with Tom Purcell, the chair of the Carondelet Housing Corporation (CHC). I had a stimulating phone conversation with Terry last week about Carondelet, and its prospects for the future.



If anyone else would like to join us, you're welcome to do so, but you need to call me ASAP as reservations are required.

Meeting Sunday September 27th - 6:00 pm

We're going to meet Sunday evening at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall at Providence. I've got some exciting things to share on Sunday night, so I hope you all can make it. We may have some snacks, but we will NOT have a meal this week.
